BioVitrum installed the first in Russia hybrid system 3D optical imaging and computed tomography InSyTe™ FLECT / CT

On February, 2016 at the Center of Collective Use "Centre of Genetic Resources of Laboratory Animals on the SPF-vivarium basis of the Institute of Cytology and Genetics Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ICG SD of RAS)", in Novosibirsk was the first in Russia installation of the 3D hybrid system of optical imaging and computer tomography InSyTe™ FLECT/CT.

Today, InSyTe™ FLECT/CT is the most modern system with the emission signal registration from the object surface 360 degrees. The results of the three-dimensional research greatly exceed all two-dimensional analogues.

The optical scanner use opens new opportunities for scientific research in medicine and fundamental biology. The optical tomography allows making more detailed research not only for experimental oncology, but also for cardiology, neurology, as well as such advanced areas of science like the genome editing.

BioVitrum installed this innovative system in the vivarium in the Institute of Cytology and Genetics. The Centre of Genetic Resources of Laboratory Animals on the basis SPF-vivarium ICG SD of RAS is the unique infrastructure project, providing the development of Russian science.

A representative of TriFoil Imaging (USA) noted, that there are only three such hybrid systems in the world: two of them are in Japan and the Baltic States, and the third is in Russia, in Novosibirsk.

“InSyTe™ FLECT/CT — the unique equipment, because it combines 2 systems: computed tomography for small animals and optical tomography, which allows to see the molecular component", - said Yuri Dmitriev, head of Preclinical Research of TriFoil Imaging.

After the installation there was the system work demonstration. As a result were obtained two images by overlaying which we had an opportunity to localize more accurately the fluorescent label and make an appropriate assessment of the entered drug. This method is completely humane towards animals.

The optical tomography is used for such important goals like cancer study. Evgeniy Zavyalov, the head of the Center of Collective Use "Centre of Genetic Resources of Laboratory Animals on the basis SPF-vivarium ICG SD of RAS", recommends the system: “The new equipment will really help to advance in the cancer treatment. We can see the tumor degradation and positive effect of the treatment".
