BioVitrum participates in the All-Russian practical-scientific conference on Medical Mycology

On June 22-23 BioVitrum and its partner Oxoid (England, part of Thermo Scientific) participated in the All-Russian practical-scientific conference on medical mycology. More than 400 specialists gathered for this conference. BioVitrum's Microbiology team spent the day demonstrating their product portfolio and collecting information while Oxoid's Microbiology specialists Michelle Holland and Ricardo Almeida presented scientific reports.

The plenary meeting was devoted to the theme of “new technologies in microbiological diagnostics”.  The scientific program opened with prof. N.V. Vasiliev PhD, the director of medical mycology department at the St. Petersburg Scientific Research Institute, giving the report “the development of microbiological disciplines and laboratories in Russian Federation and St. Petersburg”.

Later in the conference the chief Russian and foreign specialists presented reports, including "contemporary approaches to diagnostics of intra-hospital infections" from Michelle Holland, in which she described the seriousness of the problem of nozokomialni infections , the significance of measures not only for diagnostics of microorganisms, but also the determination of Antibiotic susceptibility (AST), and emphasized the importance of screening programs to decrease the high level of resistance.

There was great interest from the participants during the practical demonstration of Oxoid microbiology products using Nikon microscopes, which was conducted in the department of microbiology and mycology.

The following products were represented during the practical demonstration:
• Putting chromogenic mediums of Candida brilliance (Oxoid) to 5 clinically significant forms of the Candida
• Putting chromogenic mediums "BRILLIANCE UTI" (Oxoid) on the infectious agents of the urino-genital circuit
• Inoculated Petri dishes with MICE strips (Oxoid) for determining the minimum inhibiting concentration (Mick) of the antibiotics

And also videotapes and information on other groups of microbiological products:
• Analyzers for identification and determining Antibiotic susceptibility of microorganisms (i2a, France)
• Autoclaves (Astell, England)
• Automated media preparators and pouring modules (AES chemunex, France)

The All-Russian practical-scientific conference has already become the standard measure for Russian specialists, where they can learn about contemporary developments, new technologies and procedures, and participate in practical seminars to see and estimate the results of the studies.

Lastly we would like to thank our Oxoid partners, Michelle Holland and Ricardo Almeida, for their help with providing information to bacteriologists in our demo room. The consultations they provided together with Michelle's successful presentation created a lot of interest for BioVitrum's Oxoid portfolio.
