BioVitrum participates in the 7th National Congress “Controversies in Modern Obstetrics”

On June 1st in St. Petersburg BioVitrum participated in the 7th National Congress of "Controversies in Modern Obstetrics" at the D. O. Ott Research Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the North-West Department of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. The pathomorphology section was represented with an extensive practical-scientific program.

Over 40 specialists from this field attended this event as well as BioVitrum cytology specialist Ksenia Sharygina. During the practical seminar “contemporary methods of pathomorphological study in obstetrics” the participants could be introduced to the newest procedures of diagnostics and become acquainted with the functions of different types of equipment, including Orphee’s Novaprep®.

For specialists in the hi-tech experimental field there was the seminar "methods of confocal microscopy, modern systems of fluorescent microscopy and analysis of microscopic images" under the management of professor I.M. Kvetnogo Ph.d. The second seminar "methods of cell cultivation of organs of the reproductive system" under the management of Dr. Petrosyan MD, included demonstrations of equipment and the selection of practical examples.

There was interest during the seminar "liquid cytology and immunocytochemistry methods: organizational and procedural approaches", under the direction of key personnel of the Institute. The laboratory's practical experience of the new instrument NPS®25 was demonstrated with the help of Dr. Irina Nikolaevna Kostyuchek. Specialists could not only become acquainted with the procedures of liquid cytology, but also test technologies to independently and personally estimate results.

"After systematic selection we obtained a large quantity of completely specific questions!" said Irina Nikolaevna, "from the simplest technical to the fundamental, which affects the quality and value of the results of the studies. Doctor must always be guided by the principle "NOLI NOCERE!", that is why any new procedure undergoes rigid critical estimation. We are glad that the liquid cytology studies withstood the testing by practical work and obtained the acknowledgement and approval of associates!".

In the course of the discussion new approaches to the application of this method of liquid cytology were considered. "Already for a year we have worked with liquid cytology in our center", said Dr. Tatiana Aleksandrovna, pathologist from Moscow, "and we do not see significant alternatives to this method. Certainly, this entirely new method seems complex and difficult. But the structure is so clear that you will be surprised at the possibility in principle to see cells in this quality! We lay large hopes for automation and technologies, similar to Novaprep®».

The great significance of this event was to give the possibility for specialists not only to learn about the contemporary procedures of this type diagnostics, but also to gain firsthand practical knowledge of the equipment and procedures and discuss the results with the associates.
