   Ufa City Clinical Hospital № 21 hosted a bacteriology conference on November 20^th, 2014. This event was organized by Rima Hismatulovna Kudakaeva, chief bacteriologist in the Republic of Bashkortostan and head of the bacteriology laboratory at the Kuvatova Republic Clinical Hospital. The meeting was chaired by Regna Amiryanovna Ochilova, managing director of bacteriology at the Ufa Children’s Republican Clinical Hospital. It was attended by over twenty bacteriologists, with chief topics of discussion being modern culture media and test systems for clinical microbiology.

     Daria Starkova, a specialist in BioVitrum’s bacteriology department, presented on Thermo Fischer Scientific’s Oxoid (UK) and Remel (USA) lines and discussed modern methods of bacteriology laboratories diagnostics.

     Participants were demonstrated Oxoid and Remel products, and were able to try out proper application techniques, in order to experience the advantages and ease of use of these products. The following items were presented:

 1. Finished plates with a nutrient medium:

• Hicrome candida agar

• chromogenic media for urinary tract infections (UTIs)

• Agar plates with antibiotic discs used to define inhibition zones  (Antibiotic discs were put on agar plates using an Oxoid dispenser)

 

2) Diagnostic kits:

• RapID STR set for identifying streptococci;

• Kit for identifying Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA);

• Kit XPECT for rotavirus identification (X / pect ROTAVIRUS).
