BioVitrum was a co-organizer of the International Conference "StemCellBio-2016: the Fundamental Science as the basis of Cell Technologies"

From the 9 to 11 of November 2016 in St. Petersburg was held the International Conference "StemCellBio-2016: the Fundamental Science as the basis of Cell Technologies". The organizers of this important scientific event were "Pokrovsky Stem Cell Bank", Norwegian Centre for Stem Cell Research and LLC "BioVitrum". The conference "StemCellBio-2016" was under the auspices of the Russian Society of Medical Genetics.

The event was attended by over 250 specialists from St. Petersburg, Moscow, Novosibirsk, Kazan, Krasnodar, Vladivostok, Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg, as well as from Belarus, Latvia, Denmark, Norway, Germany, Sweden and the UK.

In the scientific program of conference were considered questions of fundamental biological mechanisms of stem cells functioning, and more application issues - on the creation, registration and use of biomedical cell products.

The participants discussed in detail mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) and their contribution to the regeneration and repair processes, as well as the characteristics and the possibility of microvesicles MSC using, delivery methods of MSC and the basis of their biological safety. Special attention was paid to the creation of three-dimensional microenvironment for the cultivation and use of stem cells, based on the 3D-bioprinting approaches and through the development, selection and settlement of cells.

In the program of the event were presented the most interesting experience results of cell technologies clinical application in Russia, for example, the experience of dermal equivalent using for extensive burns, or report on seven-year monitoring of patients with luminal Crohn's disease after treatment with mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) of the bone marrow. Great interest had the fluorescent sorting of the different stem cells types,  cell technology use in maxillofacial surgery. Lively discussion took place after the report on the stem cells application in the treatment of critical lower limb ischemia.

In addition, as part of the conference "StemCellBio-2016" was organized a section - School of young scientists "Tissue-engineered organs: preclinical studies of the monkeys". The section was attended by the young scientists and experts of international renown.

BioVitrum took an active part in the scientific program of the conference.

Olga Sidorenko, the leading specialist on Cell Technologies, Life Science group of BioVitrum, presented two reports to the audience: "3D-modeling of tissue on the porous agents in the perfusion experiment" and "Remote monitoring systems of differentiation and the general state of the cell culture".

The relevance of the conference theme, exciting oral reports of the speakers, expressive presentations and slide-show had a great interest of the audience. The participants listened attentively to speeches, actively asked questions and took part in scientific discussions.

On the second day of the conference was a large satellite symposium "Directions of basic research in obstetrics and gynecology" under the auspices of the Pavlov First Saint Petersburg State Medical University. At the symposium were highlighted issues in many areas of obstetrics and gynecology, including genetic and immunological causes of thrombophilia in pregnancy, news in the pathogenesis and treatment of uterine fibroids, ovarian tissue cryopreservation in cancer patients, modern research methods in gynecology. The program was interesting for obstetrician-gynecologists, as well as biologists, doctors, geneticists and hematologists.

An important part of the conference "StemCellBio-2016" was the exhibition of modern equipment and materials for cell technologies.

On the BioVitrum booth were presented the latest advances in molecular and cell biology, innovative developments in cell-based assays and microscopy.

Experts of BioVitrum demonstrated the fluorescence imaging cell system ZOEtm (Bio-Rad). This system is the best solution to date to display the cell samples using three channels of fluorescence and the ability to further analyze the received images. The main feature of ZOEtm design is that the system allows making the fluorescent visualization without darkroom, directly in the workplace of specialist.

Participants of "StemCellBio-2016" showed great interest to the specialized plastic of IBIDI for experiments and microscopy, thickness and properties of which provide images of unrivaled quality by any methods - from the phase contrast to confocal and high-end microscopy. It is also recommended for fluorescence microscopy and DIC.

At the conference were organized special poster sessions, where experts and young scientists were able to present the results of their research, and to exchange experiences and opinions.

Participants marked a creative and democratic atmosphere of the conference, which provided an opportunity for close interaction between young researchers and leading experts in the field of cell technology.

The Organizing Committee expresses its deep gratitude to all the participants and partners of the conference for interesting scientific discussions, meaningful work sections and saturated business program!
