International Scientific Conference PLAMIC2018 «Plants and microbes: the future of biotechnology»

The International Scientific Conference PLAMIC2018 «Plants and microbes: the future of biotechnology» was held in Ufa (Russia) on 13-17 of June 2018. The event was organized by the Russian Academy of Science.

PLAMIC 2018 gathered a lot of scientists from all over Russia involved in the field of biotechnology of plants and microorganisms. During the conference, scientists were discussing ideas and approaches to studying and modifying the genomes of plants and microorganisms, including their symbiotic interactions.

The event was attended by the specialists from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Saratov, Tula, Voronezh, Krasnodar, Kazan, Simferopol, Novosibirsk, Kirov, Ufa and other cities of Russia, there were about 250 participants.

In the agenda of the scientific program were issues:

  • Plant biotechnology, including micropropagation, in vitro cultures, genetic transformation, breeding, bioinformatics and phytoremediation.
  • Microbial biotechnology, including environmental and agricultural microbiology and bioinformatics.
  • Plant-microbe symbiosis, including natural and artificial symbiotic systems: legume-rhizobium, actinorhizal and associative symbiosis, arbuscular mycorrhiza, сyanobacterial symbiosis, metagenomics and environmental biotechnology.

Within the event, an exhibition of modern solutions for biotechnology research was organized for the participants. BioVitrum took an active part in the event. The specialists presented the company's full product portfolio in molecular and cell biology. Special interest of the exhibition visitors was caused by products for CRISPR / Cas9 editing, subsequent evaluation of effectiveness, as well as studying the effect of the changes introduced on the body.

The audience's attention was also focused on visualization solutions by Nikon, in particular its updated flagship in the line of Inverted Microscopes Nikon Ti2, as well as the Nikon N-SIM S Super Resolution Microscope. The N-SIM S Super Resolution Microscope utilizes a unique high-speed structured illumination system for achieving acquisition speeds of up to 15 fps, enabling fast biological processes to be captured at twice the spatial resolution of conventional light microscopes (up to 115nm in XY). Combining the N-SIM S and a confocal microscope gives you the flexibility to select a location in the confocal image and switch to super-resolution to view the desired part of the location in minute detail.

Also with the framework of the International Scientific Conference PLAMIC2018 «Plants and microbes: the future of biotechnology» PLAMIC2018 there was held the contest for the best poster report among young scientists.
